White Clover

As one of the leading world companies breeding white clover, our aim is to develop, produce and market varieties that are typically suited to more temperate, Mediterranean environments. The program concentrates on achieving increased winter activity, disease resistance, high fodder and forage yield.

SuperLadino Clover
Origin and Breeding
Was bred from Ladino white clovers which are widely grown throughout the world. These are large-leaved robust varieties with excellent production in spring, summer and autumn. SuperLadino has been selected for strong winter growth (group 6) to make it highly productive throughout the year.

Braidwood White Clover
Origin and Breeding
Was selected by SGA from old naturalized stands of white clover growing in high altitude very cold regions of Australia. Braidwood is very winter active (group 8/9) but is expected to be tolerant of harsh frost, it is a large leafed variety with good forage and seed yields.

SuperHuia White Clover
Origin and Breeding
Was bred from the widely grown and marketed variety Huia and crossed with other small leafed winter hardy (group 3) leading European varieties. SuperHuia has improved forage and seed production than its parents and will be suitable for all environments that its parents are used.
For more information, please see our technical sheet

SuperHaifa White Clover
Origin and Breeding
Was selected from the widely grown Australian variety Haifa. Although Haifa has strong winter growth in Mediterranean type climates, this feature has been enhanced in SuperHaifa (group 8) to increase fodder production particularly in autumn, winter and spring. SuperHaifa is higher seed yielding than Haifa.

RD 19 Taree Ladino Clover
Origin and Breeding
Bred by SGA from typical Californian type Ladino clover’s. Taree has very large leaves a strong erect growth habit and has improved reliability of seed production, it also exhibits increased winter activity (group 5)and therefore produces more autumn and early spring growth than its parents.

Excel Ladino Clover
Origin and Breeding
Was developed by SGA over three cycles of recurrent mass selection from open pollinated populations in which clones selected from 'Ladino' and 'Waverley' varieties were cross pollinated. 'Excel' is able to provide more winter forage in regions which experience moderate frosts in winter. It is adapted to temperate climates to sub-tropical environments.

Canterbury White Clover
Origin and Breeding
The variety ‘Canterbury’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia over three cycles of recurrent mass
selection primarily from among selections from ‘Grasslands Huia, with some contribution of other European origin hollandicum type white clovers. Plants were selected from diverse locations from basis of moderate winter production, early flowering, increased density of inflorescence production, stoloniferous growth habit and high seed yield.
