SuperSiriver Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperSiriver’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia Pty Ltd by recurrent mass selection among disease-resistant survivors from old fields of ‘Siriver’. Plants were selected on plant characteristics, superior fodder yield, reliable seed production and improved disease and pest resistance. In each cycle of selection plants with superior features were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.

SuperSequel Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperSequel’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia Pty Ltd by selection among disease-resistant
survivors from old fields of Sequel and Cuf 101. Plants were selected on plant characteristics, superior
fodder yield, reliable seed production and improved disease and pest resistance. In each cycle of selection plants with superior features were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.

SuperSonic Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperSonic’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia by recurrent mass selection in a
population arising from recombination among disease-resistant survivors from old fields that have
been grazed by livestock, of varieties of US and Argentine origin and superior plants selected
from fields of ‘SuperSiriver’. Plants were selected on plant characteristics of finer stems, high
stem to leaf ratio, superior fodder yield, reliable seed production and improved disease and pest
resistance and persistence under grazing. In each cycle of selection plants with superior features
were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.

SuperAurora Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperAurora’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia Pty Ltd by selection among survivors from old
fields of ‘Aurora’. Plants were selected on plant characteristics, superior fodder yield, reliable seed
production and improved disease and pest resistance. In each cycle of selection plants with superior
features were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.

SuperStar Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperStar’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia through recurrent mass selection in a
population arising from recombination among disease-resistant survivors from old fields that have
been grazed by livestock of Australian group 6/7 varieties. US and Argentine origin genetics were
also selected and combined in polycross blocks over 3 cycles. Plants were selected on plant
characteristics of lower crowns, finer stems, high stem to leaf ratio, superior fodder yield, reliable
seed production and improved disease and pest resistance and persistence under grazing. In
each cycle of selection, plants with superior features were retained and others were eliminated
before flowering.
For more information, please see our technical sheet

SuperCuf Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘SuperCuf’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia Pty Ltd by selection among disease-resistant
survivors from old fields of ‘Cuf101’ and Sequel with subsequent pollination from superior selections from ‘Sequel’. Plants were selected on plant characteristics, superior fodder yield, reliable seed production and improved disease and pest resistance. In each cycle of selection plants with superior features were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.
For more information, please see our technical sheet

Australis Alfalfa
Origin and Breeding
‘Australis’ was developed by Seed Genetics Australia through recurrent mass selection among diseaseresistant survivors from old fields of ‘Siriver and other high performing winter active lucernes. Plants were selected on plant characteristics, superior fodder yield, reliable seed production and improved disease and pest resistance. In each cycle of selection plants with superior features were retained and others were eliminated before flowering.
